MTN has cleaned up its internet browsing data plans making it easy to choose the one that is perfect for you. You now have just seven MTN Data Plan to choose from. There are cheap browsing plans for entry-level users and mobile phone browsing as well as browsing bundles for medium data and high data users. 

MTN, like most other networks, offers daily data plans and weekly data plans in addition to the standard monthly subscription. 

When choosing a data plan for browsing on the MTN network, it is a good idea to make sure you choose a browsing bundle that meets your needs. In this page, you will find latest browsing data plans offered by MTN MTN currently charges 5 kobo/kb for pay as you go browsing. Browsing on pay as you go is expensive for most users. So it is a good idea to migrate to an internet plan using its internet browsing codes as they offer more value for money.

24/7 internet browsing is great as you can browse anytime you want. MTN Night browsing seems to have been suspended at least for now. MTN Weekend data plan, which used to be active throughout the weekend from 9pm on Friday to 6am on Monday seems to have suffered the same fate. 

Weekend browsing and Night browsing made sense in the days of the fixed internet, but will the mobile always-on world both data plans seem lame. 

Activating Internet browsing on MTN 

MTN internet services can be accessed with an internet-enabled mobile phone, an Internet modem, or an Internet router. You can browse with the mobile phone directly or use it as a modem to connect your desktop or laptop to the internet using a data cable/USB or Bluetooth. To get your 3G/3.5G/GPRS settings automatically, text SETTINGS to 3888 on an MTN Nigeria mobile phone. 

You can also manually configure your mobile phone using the following settings. 

Account name: MTN GPRS 

Access point name (APN): web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net 

IP Address: 10.199.212.2 

Port: 8080 (for HTML) or 9201 (for WAP) 

Username: web 

Password: web 

Port 8080 is recommended except if your mobile phone supports the only WAP. 

If you buy your internet browsing devices from an MTN service center, it will be pre-loaded with MTN internet settings. 

The 3.5G FastLink USB modem costs around N5,000 from MTN and is also compatible to 3G/EDGE/GPRS. According to Ads on MTN website offers 6 months free data, though we cannot confirm the limits. 

MTN also offers a portable Wi-Fi router that enables you to share your internet access with up to five Wi-Fi devices within a 10m range. The portable Wi-Fi hotspot called MTN Mi-Fi costs N21,000 with 3GB free internet browsing bundle. To activate your MTN free Mi-Fi bundle, text MIFI to 131. 

MTN 1.5GB Data Plan 

MTN 1.5GB Data plan (formally 100MB, 200MB, and 260MB): This MTN data plan offers 24/7 internet access for 30 days at N1,000. The browsing bundle is limited to 1.5GB data. MTN 1.5GB data plan is best suited for browsing directly on your mobile phone. 

Even when using a mobile phone with this MTN data Plan, it is a good idea to download and browse with the Opera mini/mobile browser or a similar cloud-based data compression browser like the UC Browser or UC Mini. 

To migrate to the 1.5GB internet browsing bundle SMS 106 to 131. This MTN data plan can also be used on your laptop or desktop but do not expect it to last more than a week except you are on a slow network or browse only occasionally. 

To save bandwidth, it is a good idea to turn off automatic updates for OS and Antivirus. If your antivirus allows you to set the frequency of updates, set it to daily (24 hours/1440 minutes). 

10GB MTN Data Plan 

This MTN Data plan is the best for browsing on your laptop or desktop. It offers 24/7 (always on) Internet access to prepaid MTN subscribers for a 30-day period at a price of 5,000 NGN. The MTN Data Plan is limited to 10GB data (formally 5GB) per month. To migrate to this 30-day MTN Data Plan SMS 116 to 131. 

Make sure you have at least N5,000 on your account before migrating. Once migration is successful N5,000 will automatically be deducted from your MTN account. The 10GB MTN data plan is recommended for heavy users on high-speed (3G/HSDPA) coverage. 

MTN 24 hour internet Data Plan 

24 hours browsing bundle: MTN offers a daily internet data plan. This internet browsing bundle allows subscribers to pay daily for 100MB bulk internet access. You pay for this service any day you want to browse the internet. Just pay N200 any day you want to browse and you will get 24 hours internet browsing access from MTN limited to 100MB data. 

The 24 hours MTN data plan, will appeal to customers who currently spend a couple of hours a week browsing the internet in cyber cafes, especially if they already have a computer at home/office. This is a very good plan, it is cheap and convenient however you may find it wanting if you want 24/7 access. This internet service is available to MTN prepaid users only. 

To migrate to the daily MTN data Plan SMS 103 to 131 on any day you want to browse the internet. Internet access will be available for 24 hours limited to 100MB. Make sure you have at least N500 on your account before migrating. Once migration is successful N200 will automatically be deducted from your MTN account.
